Rohini hospital case: A shocking kidnapping incident has surfaced from Delhi’s Rohini area, where a newborn baby was allegedly abducted from the neonatal ward of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital on Tuesday morning. Police have launched a massive search operation to trace the unidentified woman accused of taking the infant.
According to officials, a PCR call was received around 9 am at North Rohini Police Station reporting the alleged kidnapping. The complainant, Sahin, a resident of Narela, informed authorities that she had been admitted to the hospital on February 12 and delivered a baby boy on February 14.
How the Suspect Gained Trust
During her stay in the labour ward, Sahin reportedly became acquainted with an unidentified woman, believed to be around 30 years old. The woman frequently approached her, initiated conversations, and gradually built a sense of familiarity and trust.
On February 17, around 5 am, the woman allegedly offered to feed the newborn milk and requested to hold the baby. Trusting her intentions, the mother handed over the infant. Exhausted after childbirth, Sahin soon fell asleep.
When she woke up around 8 am, both the woman and her baby were missing from the ward. Realising something was wrong, she immediately alerted her husband, who then contacted the police through a PCR call.
CCTV Footage Provides Crucial Clue
Police officials said that CCTV footage from inside the hospital premises has captured a woman matching the complainant’s description carrying a newborn while exiting the building. Cameras placed at entry and exit gates, corridors, and nearby roads are being thoroughly examined to trace her movements.
Preliminary analysis indicates that the suspect left the hospital premises calmly, carrying the infant in her arms. Investigators are now tracking her route and checking whether she was accompanied by anyone or used a vehicle to flee.
FIR Registered, Investigation Underway
Based on Sahin’s complaint, an FIR has been registered under Section 137(2) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at North Rohini police station. Multiple teams have been deployed to locate the accused and safely recover the child.
Authorities are questioning hospital staff, including security guards and ward attendants, to determine how the woman gained access to the labour ward. Investigators are examining whether she posed as a relative, visitor, or hospital attendant to avoid suspicion.
Police are also scrutinising visitor records to check if the suspect had visited the hospital in the days leading up to the incident. The focus remains on identifying her identity and understanding whether the act was pre-planned.
Borders Sealed, Alerts Issued
To prevent the accused from fleeing with the infant, police have issued alerts across neighbouring districts and strengthened surveillance at interstate borders. Law enforcement agencies are coordinating with nearby states to ensure swift action if the suspect attempts to cross state lines.
Officials stated that all possible leads are being pursued, and efforts are underway to apprehend the woman at the earliest. The case has raised serious concerns about hospital security protocols, especially in sensitive areas like maternity and neonatal wards.
Growing Concern Over Hospital Security
The incident has sparked questions about how an unidentified individual could repeatedly access a hospital ward and build rapport with patients without raising suspicion. Authorities are expected to review security measures and visitor monitoring systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As the search operation continues, police have urged the public to come forward with any information that may help identify the woman seen in the CCTV footage.
The investigation remains ongoing, with priority being given to ensuring the safe recovery of the newborn.
