CBSE Board Exam 2026

CBSE Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a major reform in the evaluation process for Class 12 board exams. Beginning with the examinations scheduled from February 17, 2026, answer sheets will be assessed through an On-Screen Marking (OSM) system instead of the traditional physical checking method.

However, Class 10 answer sheets will continue to be evaluated using the existing manual process.

Why CBSE Introduced On-Screen Marking

According to CBSE, the shift to digital evaluation aims to make the marking system faster, more transparent, and error-free.

Key benefits of the new system include:

  • Elimination of totaling errors

  • Reduced manual handling and increased automation

  • Faster evaluation process

  • No need for teachers to travel to marking centres

  • Reduced transportation time and costs

  • Minimal manpower required for post-result verification

  • Participation of teachers from affiliated schools in India and abroad

  • Environment-friendly process with reduced paper usage

Under the new system, teachers will be able to evaluate answer sheets from their own schools while continuing their regular duties.

Official Communication to Schools

CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj has informed principals of all affiliated schools about the new system. Schools have been asked to prepare the required digital infrastructure to enable teachers to conduct evaluations smoothly.

Infrastructure Requirements for Schools

To implement On-Screen Marking, schools must ensure:

  • Computer labs with a public static IP address

  • Windows OS 8 or higher

  • Minimum 4 GB RAM on devices

  • Updated web browsers

  • Installed Adobe Reader

  • Internet speed of at least 2 Mbps

  • Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)

Training and Support for Teachers

CBSE will conduct training sessions for teachers registered with an OASIS (Online Affiliated School Information System) ID. The board plans to organise dry runs, online training programmes, and release instructional videos.

Additionally, a dedicated call centre will be set up to address technical issues and provide real-time assistance during the evaluation process.

A Major Step Towards Digital Reform

CBSE conducts Class 10 and 12 board examinations across India and in 26 countries, with nearly 4.6 million students appearing annually. The digitalisation of Class 12 evaluation marks a significant step toward modernising the examination system.

Education experts believe the move will reduce human errors, improve transparency, and speed up result processing. Allowing teachers to mark from their own institutions is also expected to save time and improve efficiency.

The new system will officially take effect for Class 12 board examinations from 2026.
